What are Upcoming & Expired SSL Certificates?
What is an SSL Certificate?
A Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate shows that the web domain host has claimed ownership of the site. It allows your website to have an encrypted connection, preventing malicious visitors from stealing sensitive information (such as login credentials, credit card numbers, home addresses, etc.)
Why Am I Being Notified About an SSL Expiration?
WatchTowerHQ's dashboard will warn you if the SSL certificate is near its renewal date. Notifications will occur based on your settings. For instance, you could receive an upcoming SSL expiration alert 30 days, 14 days, and 1 day prior to the expiration date. Once it has expired, the notification will appear in the Expired SSL Certificates box as well as in your notifications.
What Should I Do About an Expired SSL Certificate?
It's important to renew the SSL certificate as quickly as possible. Not only will an insecure site leave your visitors vulnerable, but search engines (such as Google) will also de-rank your site from the search results. In order to renew the SSL certificate you will need to produce a new Certificate Signing Request, select an SSL certificate, validate the renewal (email, domain, or DNS), and then install the certificate on the server.
